From Nain, Labrador to St. John’s, Newfoundland, from Toronto, Canada to Cologne, Germany, THE FLUMMIES continue to please audiences with their contemporary traditional style of music. This six piece band, consisting of Inuit and Inuit Metis people of remote Labrador, sing and celebrate the cultural ways of our forefathers and mothers.

The FLUMMIES musical experiences began some 22 years ago in 1978, when these aboriginal Labradorians' saw a requirement to immortalize and promote the traditional songs of Labrador.  Since that time they have never looked back. Collectively, these seasoned musicians, have 150 years of musical experience. Having performed on television and radio shows and at countless festivals, conferences, and even performing on ferry boats, the lively toe-tapping, heart-warming, story-telling, fun-loving songs and sounds, continue to sell albums and draw fans to every event at which they perform.

Requests for their first two albums, FOUR SONGS FROM LABRADOR (1986) and
SONGS OF LABRADOR (1989) continue to be in high demand even as their new third album, LABRADORIMIUT (2000), meaning "from Labrador", gets set for release June 19, 2000. The new album was recorded on digital equipment and is dedicated to the memory of long time band member George Shiwak (1939-1999).  It boasts an array of new and old classic songs and is being deemed, by the original band members, as the best so far. With two more albums planned for the near future, The FLUMMIES, will continue to strive in the preservation of traditional "Labrador" music.

In the spring of 1999, The FLUMMIES, in conjunction with Fabian James Promotions of St. John’s, Nf and the Central Labrador Economic Development Board, organized the Labrador aboriginal artists portion of, Soiree ‘99's Newfoundland-Labrador Festival Caravan Pavilion June 25-July 3 at the base of the CN Tower in Toronto.  A 14 member mixture of Innu tea doll makers, Inuit carvers and crafters and Metis artists were assembled in short order to bring the native culture of central Labrador to the multi-national visitors of central Canada.

Back home, the band plays a complete mix of crowd pleasing classic country, rock and roll, with the main focus on classic and original songs of Labrador and traditional accordion jigs. They regularly play at local venues, fly out of town for special appearances and perform for the multi-national military air forces which train at 5 Wing Goose Bay. The Dutch, the British, the Canadian and the German contingents are great fans of the traditional tunes of the Labrador FLUMMIES.
